eBay Live Auctions
About the program:
eBay and Live Auctioneers are two separate companies that teamed
up to allow live "floor auctions" a way to tap into the
eBay auction venue. All of the lots that will be auctioned off in
Ft. Mitchell in this auction, can also be seen on eBay in their
artifact category, as well as in a "catalog" of all the
items which can be seen on the Live Auctioneer website. This
allows bidders who cannot attend a way to "absentee
bid" on the lots through eBay.
How to register:
In order to place bids on items in this auction through eBay
live, you need to be registered with eBay, and then registered
for this specific auction. If you already are registered with
eBay and have a username with them, you do not need to register
with eBay again, you only need to register for the auction
itself.
Here's how to place bids for this auction with eBay Live:
Step 1.) Register with eBay (only if you have never registered with eBay before)
If you are not an eBay member, click here and register with them.
If you already are an eBay member, you do not have to register with them and should go to step 2.Step 2.) Register for this auction
Once you are registered with ebay, click here and log in on the right side of the page where it says "Sign in to your account" and click on the "sign in" button. This will take you to the auction's "Terms and Conditions" page. Click the box agreeing to the terms, then click "Continue".Step 3.) Verification
Once you click the "continue" button in the last step, you will find that you are back at the "Sign in to your account" page. You are not done! You need to enter your user name and password again to verify "you are you" and to go to the next step. Once you have re-entered your username and password click the "Sign in" button again.Step 4.) Register with Live Auctioneers
You are now at a page titled "Share my information with LiveAuctioneers". This step allows Live Auctioneers to work with you and eBay to place your bids for this auction. Click on the "I Agree" button to proceed.Step 5.) Final Step
You will now find yourself at a page that displays your information such as your name, address, phone and email. It is very important that you verify this information is correct as this is how we know how to contact you if you are a high bidder! Once you verify the information displayed is correct - check the box that says
"I agree that this information is correct" and then click on the submit button. You Are Done!
Once you have registered, it will take a small amount of time to be approved, but you should receive an approval email soon. If you do not receive the approval email, you can email us at auctions@oldrelics.com and we can find out why you haven't been activated to bid.
Bidding
Once you are all registered and approved, you can look over the items in the auction catalog and place bids very similar to how you would for any eBay auction, with one exception - you are placing a true "absentee" bid. An absentee bid means that you are telling eBay what the highest amount you are willing to pay for an auction item is, and then eBay, through thier computers, will place your bids for you at the time of the auction, going up to, but never over, the amount you specified.
How It All Works
So how does all of this work when the auctioneer starts the actual auction in Ft. Mitchell? Well, it is not as complicated as it might seem! We have a couple people sitting in the auction room with computers that are connected to eBay. As the auctioneer takes bids from people in the room, the bids are entered into the computer letting eBay know what the high bid of the current item is "on the floor". eBay will then reply with a bid at the next increment, and if it is the current high bid, then the person at the computers will let the auctioneer know that a bidder on eBay has placed an absentee bid. This will continue bid by bid until there are no more bids either on the floor or through eBay. At that time the gavel drops, and item is considered sold. Just because you tell eBay that your highest bid is a certain amount does not mean they will bid up to that amount! eBay will only bid enough to make you the high bidder at the moment! if you are outbid - they will bid for you again until you either win the item for a lesser amount than your absentee bid, or until someone else outbids your maximum amount.
To have the best chance at winning any of the lots - you will need to place a bid with ebay for the absolute highest amount you would be willing to pay for any given lot to avoid being outbid by another eBay bidder, or by someone on the floor. Chances are you may get the item for less than your maximum bid amount, but by placing too low a bid you could also easily be outbid before the gavel drops on the final bid increment.
